You can look at the LEDs and watch
the time disappear. If you need to know the exact
amount of time remaining, you can see in one of 3 ways.
1) The easy way... Watch the sand (lights) go from
the top to bottom as the seconds tick away.
2) For the Real Nerd, each lit LED in the top array of 15 is equal to four
minutes. Add the value from the 3 ‘neck” LEDs: The top LED
is worth 3 minutes, the middle one is 2 minutes, and the
bottom is 1 minute. Fig. 5 shows the pattern at 13
minutes [3 LEDs x 4 minutes + the bottom neck LED is 1
minute more.]
3) For the Aspiring Nerd, follow the guide molded on the back of the timer (Fig.
6): Find the position of the highest value of the lit
LEDs, and add the minutes described by the ‘neck” LEDs. In
Fig. 5, the LEDs in the 4, 8, and 12 positions are
lit, as is the "1" in the neck LEDs. Since 12 is the highest
of the values, there are 12 + 1 = 13 minutes remaining.
Note that it displays “13” just up until the moment when the
time decreases to 12 minutes.
